Chosen Men Character Sheets.

This was supposed to be an interim SITREP, but as a result of some extra work that has fallen my way (I'm sure Administrators believe that those who actually do the work just wave a magic wand and everything happens!) I've been busy waving a magic wand.

I've tinkered with Ed the THW guy's rules and mixed them up. Utilising a bit of the RPG stuff with the speed of the game. Anyway this week's post is the character sheets for last weeks muster. There is another half to these and I hope the Journals will develop as the game progresses.

After going on and passing an ABCQ course (and passing it). I have been enthused.
As such the Rosewood Brewery has been re-commissioned and the first brew is on.

Being Lent the recipe is was obtained from one Father Emmett Engel .

I hope it's a cheeky little devil up there with any Scots Chardonnay, plus there is a rather unusual side product. Anyone guess what it is?

PS don't tell the wife. She doesn't see this stuff as SCIENCE!

Take care out there.

EP 2 - Muster Parade

Capt. William 'Sweet William' Fredrisckson
More by accident then design Captain William Fredrickson navigated the Lady Jessica to a small mooring just outside Chester City that regaled under the name of Saighton (pronounced SATAN). Alighting from the barge he is approached by a Sergeant of the 60th Regiment.

Snapping to attention, the sergeant saluted, "Cap'n Fredrickson, I presume."

Fredrickson identified an accent which he couldn't place, "yes Sergeant. You are?"

"Sergeant Owens, sir. Sixtieth Rifles."

I note an accent that I do not recognise."

Fredrickson & Owens meet.
"You'll find a lot of that in this unit sir. Jerusalem, sir, I come from Jerusalem."  Owens usually revelled in the puzzlement his birthplace caused. But Fredrickson's look chilled his bones. "Sorry sir, that's Jerusalem, North Wales. Just over there," he gestured West with a nod of his head. Owens thought Fredrickson smiled, but he wasn't sure.
Sgt. Nigel 'Jeru' Owens
The officer shouldered his rucksack, "come Sergeant Owens from Jerusalem, take me to our men."
"Sir," replied Owens. Owens 'Jeru' or Nigel 'Jeru' , if one was familiar, was the usual nomenclature, but a Sergeant was in no position to correct an officer. Owens thought he recognised a German accent in his officer's speech, that was also not position to inquire.

"Austrian, a city called Osnabruck," said Fredrickson, as if reading Owens' mind.

Charles 'Chuck' Hall
Owens led Fredrickson to the edge of an un-named hamlet, beyond which a rough and ready encampment stood. Stopping on a small rise that over looked the camp Fredrickson bade Owens to do likewise.
"Brief on the men, will you Sergeant."

Owens scanned an eye about the tents. "The Rifleman on sentry; that's Hall, sir. A Canadian, joined the rifles with a broken heart and serious debt, likes his dice he does. An excellent woodsman and the company's best shot."

Cedric 'Trinidad' Bose
"The black feller, he's Rifleman Bose. Born a freeman on Trinidad  but pressed into the navy. Got so seasick the purser set him ashore, where our recruiting Sergeant got hold of him in some tavern. Turns out he's great with his hands and is an excellent armourer. Committed bit not a great soldier."

John 'Papa Doc' Holmes
Ruari 'Baby Doc' Holmes
"The remaining two. Now there's a tale. Father and son. Riflemen John and Ruari Holmes, Papa Doc and Baby Doc. Dad was a Regimental Surgeon, 30th Foot, I think. An incident leading to the demise of a senior officer's daughter in childbirth led to a court martial. The noose or the army, well here he is. The son followed him in order to look after father. Both are excellent soldiers Papa Doc struggles a bit to keep up, but he has a good soldiers brain. Baby Doc gives Hall a run for his money, if he had any, with his Baker and considering his background he's one hell of a tracker."

"They've all been chosen for this task and none of us are any the wiser." Owens braced himself for the 'you're not paid to think' speech but was surprised.

"All in good time Sergeant Owens, all in good time. Now get the men fell in, range order."

Owens snapped to attention and doubled away.

Fredrickson's 'Z' men

Well there you have them. The characters for my new adventure. I hope for at least one episode a month.

Thanks for calling. See you all in the blogsphere. Take care.

Lorcan.

Ep. 1 - The Lady Jessica - All Things Zombie - AAR, Batrep.

Prologue
Captain William Fredrickson, 60th Rifles ‘The Loyal Americans’, has left France after a falling out with his friend Richard Sharpe (c.f. Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe’s Revenge). Returning to England he is en-route to Liverpool in order to embark on a ship bound for Canada.
Whilst staging in Nantwich his billet is visited by a well-dressed gentlemen who engages Fredrickson to save the ‘niece’ of a well-known Politian who has been caught up in an outbreak of plague. He has been given a section of riflemen, also on route to Canada, to assist. Captain Fredrickson will join his troops just outside Chester city and the barge The Lady Jessica has been retained to transport him.

Turn 1 (FZ-4/NPC-5)
“Mr. Fredrickson, is it? John McKinnon Master of the Lady Jessica. Welcome aboard.”

“Very kind sir,” replied Fredrickson throwing his campaign sack onto the barge and climbing aboard.

“Well, Captain, I’ve seen many a haversack but I sure haven’t seen one like that.”

“It’s French, Mr. McKinnon. A souvenir of my time with Napoleon, along with these,” he said circling his scarred face.

“It’ll take us a day or so to get to your destination, make yourself at home.”

Fredrickson nodded his thanks and McKinnon got on with casting off.

Sweet William takes a tour around the barge.

Before storing his kit below deck.

Unbeknowest to Fredrickson McKinnon picks up a couple of ruffians.

Who go straight below and attack the Captain.
Bad skippering, McKinnon bumps his barge with the canal wall.
(Doubles thrown).

Knocking William into the bow cabin and causing his assailants to loose their footing.

A fortunate mishap as only one footpad may attack William at any one time.
Unable to draw his sabre he drops the white shirt with a headbutt and stuns him.

Red shirt reels back. William draws his sabre.

A fire breaks out (more doubles). William charges, red shirt staggers backwards under the onslaught.
McKinnon comes to assist, the fire dies out. An enraged Fredrickson charges both men, skewering white shirt on the way.
McKinnon flees (failing his 'being charged' test)
Fredrickson closes with red shirt and makes short work of him.

With McKinnon gone and the two rouges dead Fredrickson is left to ponder the reason behind the assault. Was it a straight attempt at robbery or had it something to do with his current mission. First things first navigating the Lady Jessica to Saighton and joining his troop.

I was hoping to write the story in prose but my self-imposed timescale for gaming and blogging necessitated a quick post (missed by a day). I'll try and be more detailed this month. Hope you enjoyed it anyway.

Thanks for popping by/ If the weather forecast is right I hope you don't get too cold. All the best.

Carrying on-Some good bits and some failure.

Well I got on with the campaign preparation and there were some good bits and not so good bits.

Not so good bits. I really dropped the ball with my dry brushing and got this!

These require a repaint.

On the mediocre side, I went a bit mad with the Lady Jessica and got this.

Further meritocracy, I needed some civilians, I had some Imex American Pilgrims and pressed them into service. They're out of era but I don't think that badly.

On the plus side I managed to finalise the house rules for the adventure and sort out the PEFs as well as building a map the actions.

What did I learn from this week?

You need to keep on top of your modelling and painting skills. As it is not far off a year since I did anything you really loose the knack. I'm hoping to start my campaign next week but I may try a couple of experiment games to get back into it and I don't want another failure week.

Keep your skills up and thanks for popping by.

Let's get back on topic.

Well after that brief sojourn I spent the last couple of days trying to get back on line with my current project.

I cracked on with the main characters for my tale.

They need: washing, dry painting, varnishing and generally tarting up. You'll meet them all, individually, as their adventure develops.

The Lady Jessica got a bit of extra modelling which I wasn't intending to do, but a lick of paint and I don't think she'll look too shabby.. Do I build a more significant role for her, she was just to appear in one episode.

Anyway, a bit more rule building to do this week. But first off to the big city for my eldest's driving theory test and (hopefully) a celebratory Chinese with the family.

I forgot how enjoyable modelling and posting is. Thanks for visiting.
