Patrol, side-bar. A bit of advice please.

This scenario has got me hooked, and its mine (wierd). Highway and platoon are heading into Purgatory to save their pal.

I want to make it as realistic as possible.

Patroling is one of the most exhilarating of military endeavours. However, it is also the most demanding and dangerous. It requires TRUE teamwork, training and experience. A night patrol needs this in spades!
Highway has an inexperienced group, with mediocre training. In order to reflect this I am thinking of decreasing the command sphere and dropping all grunts' Reps by 1. Do you guys think this would work? I would appreciate your advice,  guidance and ideas over this.

PS; is this the best forum for this question or should this be on Board of the Living Dead?

  1. Scenario sounds good, But cant really advise on your intended adjustments.

  2. Here's an alternative idea for you to consider. Leave everyone's Reps alone. However, have the soldiers roll on the Civilians reaction tables to reflect their lack of training. Tom Highway should still roll on the Military reaction tables as he is a combat veteran.

    1. VtG strikes again. Good ideas Bryan. I think I'll try this.

  3. Look forward to the AAR, Bryans advice seem sound to me

  4. I'd keep them at their current Rep. Even a little training is better than what civilians will have had.

    1. Take that on board, good point. I'll need to dwell on this a bit more.

  5. I like the idea of a reduced command sphere. Is this a theoretical change? How would it affect your game? If it's a substantive change I would only do this.

I also agree with Vampifan's assessment of leaving their Reps alone. Using the Civilian table wouldn't be a bad idea, though to be candid I would only do that for the infantrymen that the Gunny has NOT lead against the zombies yet. The rest, to my mind, should have had their training reinforced by real world (horrific!) experience, and should therefor be able to use the military reaction table, at whatever their current Rep is. The rest just need a bit of polish on their training as the knowledge is there, it just has to be brought out through a bit of experience.

Luckyjoe makes a really good point about ANY training being better than what most people get. So if you decide to reduce Rep by 1 I again would seriously consider it ONLY for the guys that the Gunny hasn't led against the zombies yet. I would also only do it for the first scenario that they're involved in, to reflect their progression as infantrymen.

No matter what you decide, I'm excited to read about your results!

  6. Bryan made a good suggestion, I'd play it like that.

  7. Do keep the rep as it is! They will be hitting nothing if you lower it. As Bryan mentions, maybe have them roll as civillians. That would make them that bit different.

The scenario itself really sounds interresting! Best of luck with it!

  8. Cheers guys. All very good ideas and thoughts. Plenty to think about. Seeing as I won't be playing until the weekend, at the earliest, I've plenty to mull over.
