The Janus Post

HAPPY 2014 TO YOU ALL!

Yep the annual Janus report looking backwards and forwards simultaneously, as represented by the Roman God. Those of  you of a certain age may remember the other Janus from the Valiant comic (my favourite comic until the Action and 2000AD came along).

Janus STARK the escapologist.
2013:
1. Blog at least once a week. Fail.
2. Play a game at least once a month. Fail.
3. Start a QWIK tourney and 'Long Rifle Campaign. Fail.
4. Get my heart sorted out. Pass.
5. Prepare for retirement. Fail.
6. New role, 'work to live not live to work'. Fail
7. Civic improvements on Castle PZ. Fail.

Really all in all I didn't do that well. In my defence the heart thing took a bit longer to sort out then I imagined, I didn't respond too well to the blood thinning agents and the op had to be put back six weeks. But it got stopped and restarted and I'm fine now :-) The Inspector left and came back; redeployed the other two officers in my office leaving me with all the work to do and that really hammered the gaming as I didn't really get the time off I hoped :-(, although it has accumulated and I don't have to go back to work until I finish ;-) I had a GREAT holiday with my family in August and introduced the nephews to D&D as well as getting one of them and my Brother-in-law  hooked on X-Wing miniatures :-) (more gamers is never a bad thing). So that was 2013 in PZ land.

2014:
1. Get a New job.
2. Blog once a week.
3. Game at least once a month.
4. Civic improvements.
5. Drive on with the VCBW project.
6. Get to at least two wargame conventions.
7. Get fitter, loose weight.

A magnificent seven.

And just because I like pretty women. I give you Miss January 1941.

All the best to you all and your folks for 2014 and I'll see you in the sphere.
Thanks for popping by.

Lorcan.

  1. Don't feel too bad about your failed resolutions, Bob. Hospital stays can put a big dampener on your plans. I speak from experience as I lost a third of 2013 due to my unexpected stay in hospital. I'm just grateful that I'm still alive and I recommend you take the same attitude. Gaming and hobby stuff is a nice diversion but your health has to come first. Without good health you can't do the other things on your list. Stay healthy in 2014, Bob!

  2. Of the list to me you got the important one sorted out. Anything else would be a bonus.

Looking forward, you have some great and I hope achievable goals. I have not done my Janus list just yet, I hate looking back it highlights negative things as I tend to focus on what has gone wrong and not what has gone right.

But I feel that the future is bright and optimistic. I hope you feel the same. Good luck with all you do.

  3. As it has been said mate, the only really important point of your resolution was accomplished. Blogging can bog down easily, as can playing games. Heck, I have nothing to do yet I got no idea where my days are all going - it all moves so fast.

Hope this year will only be better! :)

  4. I think out of all the goals the most important one was obviously your heart! I wouldn't worry about what you did and didn't do your still blogging and about enjoying the hobby. Best of Luck with the job hunt for 2014 Enjoy the break whilst you look though!

    Happy New Year mate

  6. Health issues become a major pain at our age, if I only knew I would of taken better care of my self in my 20s, I have to loose weight and quit the beer and smokes, or so my wife says. Happy new year mate

  7. Hmm, I wouldn't stress too much about missed goals. The real (and *only*) question is "are you comfortable with the way you're living your life?". You only need to do something dramatic if the answer is "no".

    Wow, that sounds trite...

  8. Keep yourself healthy, then take time to enjoy the fruits of your labours. Also be fair and realistic with yourself about how manageable goals will be. :)

  9. I really think that the one pass for 2013 outweighed the six other "fails" and I'd have been just as happy with it.
2014 can't better that pass, but has enabled you to set some new targets and good luck with those.
